Baskin School of Engineering Major Plan Review Workshops

Do you need assistance mapping out your academic plan?

Do you need more information about your major’s requirements?  Not sure what to take in Winter quarter?

Are you being required by UCSC to declare your major this quarter but you are unable to?

Do you have a plan that has already been reviewed by a staff advisor, but you are being asked to get an updated signature?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you should attend a BSOE Major Plan Review Workshop!

What is a Major Plan Review Workshop?

These Workshops are designed for current UCSC students to receive assistance with their major academic plan, have their major academic plan reviewed, and have their academic plan signed by an advisor. Major Plan Review Workshops are held in Fall and Spring quarters, usually in November and May.

These workshops are different than Major Declaration Workshops.

When are these Major Plan Review Workshops?

Workshops will be 1-2 1/2 hours long, based on attendance. Students will be assisted on a first-come-first served basis. Please plan to be prompt. Late arrivals may not be admitted to the workshop.

Do I need to do anything prior to attending this workshop?

Yes, prior to attending one of these workshops you should:

1) Review the courses and GPA required to qualify for your major.

We have created charts outlining the major qualification requirements for all BSOE majors.

2) Create a plan through graduation.  The following steps will assist you with this process.

a) Print your major’s curriculum chart from our Undergraduate Advising website

b) Cross off all courses completed on the curriculum chart to help you keep track of course progress. It’s recommended to try and schedule no more than two major classes per quarter.

c) Refer to the SOE course schedule for information about course scheduling and prerequisites. Click on a course to read the course description and prerequisites. You will be planning your schedule at UCSC based on this year’s class schedule.  Please check each year's class schedule as they become available to ensure your courses will still be offered as planned.

d) Refer to the Physical and Biological Sciences (aka PBSCI) Enrollment website for information about course scheduling and prerequisites for all Physical and Biological Sciences courses.  These include math, physics, biology, chemistry, etc.

e) Sample plans for your major can be found in the following locations:

f) Once you are done creating your plan enter your proposed academic plan into "My Planner" in your MyUCSC portal. For assistance, please refer to our Course Planner Tutorial

We will be reviewing your plan with you at the workshop, so make sure to bring it!
